Nursing is a career I plan on pursuing to the end. After graduating with an A/S degree I plan on furthering my education and go on for my bachelors/masters degree. I plan on becoming a Nurse Practitioner. A Nurse Practitioner is a RN who has advanced education and clinical training in a Health care specialty area. They provide primarily health care in Women's Health, Psychiatric, Oncology, Neonatal, Family Practice, and all hospitals. When I become a nurse I plan on working in Neonatal at first and eventually get into my own business and in the future become a midwife.
Nursing will be very demanding, but I think once I've been in the
field for a couple of years, I would be capable of opening my own business
then, which would give me the freedom I deserve. I'm married with
two kids, eight and fourteen, and they have been very excited in my career
goals I have decided. My family knows that there will be more
of a financial security in the future. This will relieve us all of
a lot of pressure.
Nurses make around $35,000 a year and a Nurse Practitioner makes
about $60,000 a year. Of course these salaries are within the Florida
Hospitals. The salary varies depending on where you live. There
are a lot of good hospitals here, so for now I'm planning on working at
one of the hospitals here in Gainesville, FL. There is such a demand
for nurses now, that the schools are taken people who want to become one
and the job market is looking for good nurses now.
The only stressful thing about nursing I can think of would be working under pressure, being under constant watch, and knowing that these patients are in my hands. I would hate to have to deliver terrible news to a family about a loved one. That would be extremely hard. It's going to be very challenging for me at first. I decided to go back to school after being out for thirteen years. It was terrifying. And I chose to go in the nursing field because it seemed to be a means of a future for my family and I. I think I surprised a lot of people though, especially my family with all my determination and sacrifice that I've been making in school. I did pretty good my first year and that gave me the strength and courage to continue my education. I plan on continuing to the end and finishing with a masters degree, so I can become a Nurse Practitioner. There seems to be more freedom with that versus just a regular RN. You have to enjoy doing what your doing, and I would not go into the nursing program if I didn't think I'd enjoy it. |
When I become a nurse, I'm going to give it my best and do something that I would be proud of and my family would be proud of, like opening my own business and becoming a midwife. This is my goal that I'm heading for. This gives me the motivation and inspiration to do my best in whatever I have to do to get there. I'm willing to work hard and to dedicate myself to the nursing world. I know how hard nurses work, so I'm prepared for the long hours, weekends, holidays, and overtime. It's worth it to have the career you've worked at for so long. Plus nursing has the "insurance" of a great retirement plan, health insurance and all the other benefits they get. This goes along with the security that's important for my family and I.
Therefore, nursing I believe will challenge me to be more of the
person I want to be. It has made me grow up in many ways. I
look forward to the dedication I will need to give, the sacrifice I have
to make and my desire to keep on learning. Pursuing a career in nursing
is a continuing challenge to me. The day to day discipline required
is already helping me become the person I want to be.
